In what could be called a utopian and ideal picture of the early Church, we see believers surrendering their land and money to help any and all those in need. And we also see the reason behind this supernatural selflessness: the very real Resurrection of Jesus Christ! Not only should these few verses encourage and inspire us, but they need to convict and correct us. Not forced. Not legislated. Not demanded. But a graceful giving away of our possessions – as led by the Holy Spirit – to help the needy among us. That was the heartbeat of the early Church.
